Propriano, Corsica (PortSEurope) September 14, 2017 – Four times a week in summer, the Kalliste ferry, owned la Méridionale, dominates the port of Propriano. But it is the only ship to make the link between Valinco and the Continent, leaving mostly the modern infrastructure of the port abandoned.
In July, traffic figures published by L’Observatoire Régional des Transports de la Corse (Regional Transport Authority of Corsica – ORTC) show a 13% drop in the number of passengers passing through the port. Figures disputed by industry professionals.
For purely calendar reasons, the month of July 2017 included a fewer crossings than in 2016. ” This represents about a thousand passengers, said François Sorba, whose agency is in charge of embarking the Kalliste in Propriano. The decrease is probably closer to 8%. ”
For him, as for La Méridionale, the drop in the number of passengers is to be attributed to an offer too limited in comparison with what is done elsewhere.
With only one company serving the port, Propriano can not aspire to reach the visitor numbers of other better served terminals. Victor Castellani, deputy director of the Southern Corsica, said is expected this when Porto-Vecchio strengthened its customer offer.
For both men, the problem does not come from a loss of attractiveness of Valinco for holidaymakers, but rather companies concentrate their business on the other ports of the island.
