A Coruña, Spain (PortSEurope) September 12, 2017 – A Coruña port handled 8.4 million tonnes of cargo in the first seven months of 2017, up 7.67% on the year, on the back of a solid growth in liquid bulk cargo handling.
The port handled 5 million tonnes of liquid bulk in the first seven months, up 11%, while solid bulk cargo traffic rose 4% to 2.6 million tonnes. On the other hand, general cargo traffic fell 3% to 543,000 tonnes.
The cargo throughput figures of A Coruña port’s outer harbour, Punta Langosteira, were also positive. The outer harbour handled 1.25 million tonnes in the first seven months, in line with the port’s objective of 2 million tonnes in 2017 and 5 million tonnes in 2020.
In July alone, A Coruña port handled record-high 1.58 million tonnes, up 46% on the year. In this way, the port beat the previous monthly cargo traffic of 1.56 million tonnes, registered in May.
