Algeciras, Spain (PortSEurope) May 15, 2018 – Algeciras port has recently received halal certification, the document issued by the Muslim authorities, in this case in Spain, which certifies that the procedures used comply with Islamic law.
And that is good news for the province, because the port will become part of the halal cluster of Córdoba on May 23. The arrival of the new member will allow the cluster companies, around 30 today, to export their products through the fifth largest port in Europe to the Muslim markets of the Mediterranean area, America and Africa.
The director of the halal cluster of Córdoba, Isabel Romero, stressed the importance of the new partner, which will place Córdoba in one of the most important transport hubs in the world. Romero recalled that the port of Algeciras also has a direct route with Tanger Med in Morocco.
He explained that until recently the only port that had halal certification in Europe was Rotterdam.
