Piraeus, Greece (PortSEurope) February 13, 2018 – On February 9, the “Piraeus III” floating dock completed by Shanghai COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. was successfully launched under the loading of “Xin Guanghua” ship of COSCO Shipping Co., Ltd for delivery to Piraeus port in Greece.
The port is operated by Piraeus Port Authority S.A. (PPA) which is managed by China’s COSCO Shipping Ports Limited. COSCO is developing the port’s ship building facilities.
The floating dock is 240 metres long and 45 metres wide. 18 meters. In August 2017, Piraeus Port Authority SA (PPA) was invited to bid for the international public bidding. COSCO Shipyard COSCO Sheshan successfully won the bid.
After five months of construction, the dock structure, the upgrading of environmental protection facilities and the maintenance of ancillary equipment and facilities were completed. The requirements of the relevant laws and regulations of Europe and Greece as well as the environmental regulations of international conventions were fulfilled and CCS inspection and certification was completed. Floating dock has been named new “Piraeus III”.
After the Piraeus III floating dock was delivered to Piraeus port, it is planned that the operator will upgrade its supporting hardware facilities in the port to expand the scale of ship repairing and optimize and enhance the operational capacity of the port.
