Tarragona, Spain (PortSEurope) October 13, 2017 – Covestro, a subsidiary of German pharma giant Bayer AG, specialising in the production of high-performance materials, has launched a logistics centre in Tarragona after a 3 million investment.
The platform’s main objective will be to facilitate the company in meeting the demand for hydrochloric acid in Spain. The general manager of Covestro in Spain, Andrea Firenze, assured that the project reinforces the commitment of the company to the Spanish market.
Firenze regretted that the Mediterranean Corridor is not yet operational as this means an increase in investment and logistical costs, among other drawbacks. The corridor is a “vital factor” for the business development of the industrial sector of Tarragona, he noted.
The logistics centre will import hydrochloric acid from other Covestro plants in Germany to Tarragona, from where it will be distributed. Covestro has two centres in Spain that currently employ 330 people.
Covestro is a leading supplier of premium polymers.
From September 1, 2015 Bayer MaterialScience is operating under the Covestro name. The company is now legally and economically independent. The Covestro AG debuted on the stock market on October 6.
