Damietta, Egypt (PortSEurope) January 12, 2018 – In the last three calendar years (2015, 2016 and 2017) Damietta Port handled 7,782 vessels, compared to 7,147 ships in (2012, 2013, 2014).
3,460 were container vessels with a 14% increase and throughput was 15.6 million tons, a 19% increase.
The results also showed growth in total number of containers during the same three years by 23% with handled containers totaling 699.7 million TEUs.
The number of cargo trains reached 1,753 wheat trains compared to 1,055 during the previous three years. A further 14 trains were used to transport raw sugar and 202 trains to transfer stones to the Zohr gas field. Five trains were in service to export phosphate and another five trains to transfer iron. And for the first time, 144 trains carried containerized goods to cities like Helwan.
