Vado Ligure, Italy (PortSEurope) April 15, 2018 – The first ship with maxi cranes for the new APM Terminals container platform has arrived in the port of Vado Ligure.
The cranes were manufactured by ZPMC Group of Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Company Limited, and the large cranes will be used for loading and unloading containers. ZPMC is one of the largest manufacturers in the sector and focuses on Vado Ligure and Maersk as a showcase for its cranes to the ports of the Mediterranean.
The construction of cranes in Chinese shipyards came after an agreement signed in Vado almost two years ago between the vice-president of ZPMC, Zhu Lian Yu, the managing director of the Italian branch of the Chinese multinational, Elio Crovetto, and the managing director of Apm Terminals Italia, Paolo Cornetto, in the presence of the mayor Monica Giuliano.
The APM-Maersk terminal, which also sees the Chinese Cosco as a partner, will become operational in the spring of next year.
