Gioia Tauro, Italy (PortSEurope) November 20, 2017 – Gioia Tauro port’s container traffic declined by 11% on the year in the first nine months of 2017, according to data by a report of Italian central bank Banca d’Italia on the development of the economy of the southern region of Calabria.
“After the recovery of the activity in 2016, the Gioia Tauro port registered a significant decline in traffic. There was a sharp increase in the traffic of cars, following the use of the Calabrian terminal for exports of vehicles produced by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) at the Melfi plant,” Banca d’Italia said.
