Livorno, Italy (PortSEurope) March 25, 2018 – The European Union Gramas project was presented at Piombino port. The project involves the underwater monitoring system for the prediction and management of port silting.
The project was presented by Autorita’ di Sistema Portuale del Mar Tirreno Settentrionale (AdSP – North Tyrrhenian Sea Port Authority), which included plans for the next two years.
The GRAMAS monitoring system will be implemented in four ports with different characteristics in terms of contour morphology, currents, shape and orientation of the port basin: Piombino, Livorno, Savona, and of the ports of the Gulf of Saint Tropez.
The strategic challenge of GRAMAS is to make navigation in port waters safer, and to increase the efficiency and competitiveness of the ports. The monitoring model produces a reproduction of the seabed on 3D maps, systematically updated.
The total budget of the project is over €1 million and is financed by Interreg Italy-France Maritime Program 2014-2020.
The Interreg Italy-France Maritime Program 2014-2020 is a cross-border program co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
The program aims to achieve the objectives of the EU 2020 Strategy in the north-central Mediterranean, promoting smart, sustainable and inclusive growth.
