Huelva, Spain (PortSEurope) September 18, 2107 – Huelva port authority (Autoridad Portuaria de Huelva) has signed a cooperation agreement with Spanish state-run rail cargo operator Renfe Mercancías to boost the freight transport by rail through the harbour.
The two sides held a high-level meeting to agree on the large growth potential of Huelva port which can be supported through the development of its rail links. The port authority and Renfe Mercancías plan to jointly support this type of traffic, both on the railway infrastructure of the port and the intermodal terminal at Sur dock.
Moreover, Huelva port authority and Renfe Mercancías will join forces to increase their presence in the hinterland of the harbour through agreements with different railway terminals and dry ports in the interior.
According to the president of the port authority, Javier Barrero, the cooperation is a result of the commercial effort of the team of professionals of the port authority to reinforce the alliance with Renfe Mercancías.
