Ibiza, Spain (PortSEurope) February 13, 2018 – The dock area of the port of Ibiza, which concentrates more than two million people throughout the year and tens of thousands any day of June, July, August and even September, will remain closed throughout the summer season for the construction of one of the three rainwater tanks planned by the Ministry of Environment.
“We have met with the Ministry and it has confirmed that the works will not be completed before the summer,” a spokesman of the Balearic Islands port authority (Autoridad Portuaria de Baleares) said. The pier will remain partly fenced during the season, although it is unknown which area will be closed. The closure will harm the operation of the boarding and disembarkation of one of the busiest passenger lines in Europe and the tourist image of the island.
The port authority also explained that in one of the meetings held with the Ministry, “we have asked them to try to work with as little disruption as possible and have collected our petition telling us that they will give priority in high season to those actions that have less impact.”
