Koper, Slovenia (PortSEurope) April 13, 2018 – Representatives of port operator Luka Koper d.d. and the Slovenian government have visited the Chinese port of Ningbo-Zhoushan, to discuss cooperation in maritime logistics.
Luka Koper chairman Dimitrij Zadel, Infrastructure Minister Peter Gašperšič and Infrastructure Ministry State Secretary Jure Leben were part of the delegation.
“We want to take advantage of the geo-strategic position of the Koper port,” said Minister Gašperšič. If a ship from China comes to Koper instead of a north European port, its travel could be reduced by up to seven days, he added.
Slovenia would like to be connect to China via various transport corridors in Europe, and fulfil a role in the new Silk Road, an economic policy of the Chinese government to develop greater access for its goods to European markets.
