Genoa, Italy (PortSEurope) April 15, 2018 – Autorita’ di Sistema Portuale del Mar Ligure Occidentale (AdSP – Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority), which is responsible for Genoa and Savona ports, has said that Genoa port operations will continue during the forthcoming construction of a new port breakwater.
Work sites could be busy for 12 years. Funding will be arranged by Invitalia (the Ministry of Economy’s agency for inward investment and economic development).
The work is necessary for the development of the port, which will then be able to safely accommodate large container ships, significantly widening the passage channel, which is now 160 metres ensuring safe maneuvering spaces inside a basin that will be about 650 metres deep meters on a backdrop of 40.
To realize this work, new technologies will be used that will limit the effects on the operation of the port as much as possible. The construction of the dam will, in fact, be built thanks to prefabricated caissons, large as palaces, which will arrive in front of Genoa in floating and will then be filled with stones and sunk.
