Sines, Portugal (PortSEurope) February 13, 2018 – Sines port’s container terminal generated 42% of the total cargo traffic of the harbour in 2017.
Regarding the number of TEUs, Sines port exceeded 1.67 million TEUs, which corresponds to a year-on-year growth of 10.3%. Multipurpose Terminal also performed well in 2017, surpassing 6.3 million tonnes, a growth of 8.5%.
The best result, in terms of year-on-year variation, was achieved by the LNG Terminal. With a total turnover of over 2.6 million tonnes, corresponding to an increase of around 63%, 2017 was the year in which this terminal began to strengthen its position nationally and internationally.
Sines port ended 2017 with a traffic that was very close to 50 million tonnes, which corresponds to a decline of 2.5%. In spite of the good performance in the containerised cargo, solid bulk and liquefied natural gas (LNG) segments, the reduction of around 8.5% in the Liquid Bulk Terminal (TGL) was decisive for the results.
