Naples, Italy (PortSEurope) September 2017 – In the first half of 2017, Autorita’ di Sistema Portuale del Mar Tirreno Centrale (Central Tyrrhenian Sea Port Authority) has achieved significant results in terms of goods handling, an increase of more than 10% as regards overall container traffic in the three ports of Naples, Salerno and Castellamare Stabia.
“However, I would like to focus in particular on the exponential growth of ro-ro units registered at Salerno, with a 32% increase compared to 7 million tonnes in 2016″, commented Domenico De Rosa, Managing Director of the SMET Group. SMET is Salerno’s leading company in the field of integrated logistics.
He added: ” These numbers, which allow us to look serenely in the future and to imagine a next and decisive growth for the economy of this city and the whole region, once again demonstrate that intermodality is the true vocation of our port.”
“The results achieved by the Campania ports in the first half of 2017 are part of a global growth for maritime traffic, which has always measured the economic recovery and the ability of a country to attract investment. In this sense, I am sure that entrepreneurs will know the positive contingency and accelerate this recovery by reinvigorating investments.”
Domenico De Rosa also commented on the establishment of the ZES (Special Economic Zones), which are already widely used in North Africa and will certainly benefit long-term investments in local ports. Along with Gioia Tauro, Autorita’ di Sistema Portuale del Mar Tirreno Centrale, with the port of Naples, will be the first to experiment with a ZES.
“Logistic operators are ready to do their part, contributing even more actively to the increase in traffic – concluded De Rosa – I hope that Naples ‘experimentation will soon follow the establishment of ZES in Salerno”.
SMET is one of the major European players in the integrated logistic sector.
