Santander, Spain (PortSEurope) January 11, 2018 – Spanish construction company Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas (FCC) has applied for the revision of the project for the construction of Dock 9 at Raos terminal, Santander port.
The intense criticism aroused by professionals for the contract for the work with a discount of 32% on the initial price of €25 million ($29.9 million), now find their reason. FCC announced in July that it was impossible for it to take over the work for the amount offered at the time – €20.9 million ($25 million).
Santander port authority (Autoridad Portuaria de Santander) confirms that it is studying the FCC proposals and has not yet issued a response, but everything points to the fact that the budget will have to be increased irremediably.
October 18, 2018, was set as the deadline for the completion of the works, just 18 months after the launch of the project on April 18, 2017. But as things stand, the port has resigned: “It is considered that this date cannot be fulfilled.”
