Trieste, Italy (PortSEurope) July 10, 2017 – The Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea Port System (Autorità di Sistema Portuale del Mare Adriatico Orientale), in cooperation with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, will host in Trieste the 14th edition of the annual meeting for the implementation EU-China Sea Transport Agreement.
Introduced in 2002, the agreement intends to improve the conditions under which the cargo operations destined to and coming from China are carried out. It is based on the principles of freedom to provide maritime transport services and the principle of non-discriminatory treatment in relation to the use of port and auxiliary services. The agreement also promotes EU-China cooperation on maritime security issues and staff training.
The meeting, which is held alternately in China and the European Union on an annual basis, is the ideal location for exchanging information and views on the sector and facilitating contacts between operators and maritime authorities. The two delegations in Trieste will be composed of representatives of the Chinese Ministry of Transport, the Directorate General for Transport and Mobility of the European Commission and representatives of EU member states.
