Valencia, Spain (PortSEurope) May 15, 2018 – Valencia port authority (Autoridad Portuaria de Valencia) will participate in the ‘Transport Logistic China’ fair that will be held from May 16 to 18 in Shanghai with the aim of strengthening its leadership the in Asian markets.
The port authority will show its broad connectivity with China and with the entire geographical area of the Far East, which currently represents 48% of the traffic managed by Valencia port. Around 50% of foreign trade between Spain and China passes through the port of Valencia.
At the end of 2017, China became the main commercial partner of Valencia port with 6.97 million tonnes handled, 2.95% more than the previous year. Regarding container traffic, in 2017 China serviced 574,303 full TEUs, a figure that represents a growth of 4.69%.
The official opening of the event is scheduled on May 16. Subsequently, on May 17, Spanish news agency Puertos del Estado organised a conference named ‘The Spanish Mediterranean corridor, an essential part of the new silk route (OBOR): a competitive multimodal offer for China-Europe traffic’.
The president of the port authority, Aurelio Martínez will participate in a roundtable with the president of the port of Bilbao, Asier Atutxa, focused on the connections between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic axis.
