Valencia, Spain (PortSEurope) November 20, 2017 – The president of Valencia port authority (Autoridad Portuaria de Valencia), Aurelio Martínez, has welcomed the decision of carmaker Ford Motor Corporation to invest €750 million ($882 million) in its Spanish factory in Almussafes to manufacture the next-generation Ford Kuga medium-sized Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV).
Since 2011, the company has invested a sum of around $3.5 billion in its Valencia operations.
The investment of will help the Valencia plant’s operations to secure productivity improvements and enhance cost efficiency. It also showcases Ford’s commitment toward this European manufacturing location. Additionally, it will create job opportunities. Currently, the location employs more than 8,000 people across all its operations.
The decision of Ford represents important news for Valencia port, Martínez said. When a customer announces additional investments, Valencia reinforces its position as a port with a primary objective to serve the industry, he noted.
The investments of companies are a proof of their wish to consolidate the presence in the region. As for Valencia port, the compromise is to keep improving to consolidate as a basic tool for the foreign trade of companies, Martínez said.
Ford uses Valencia port for the export of its vehicles produced in Almussafes.
