Vigo, Spain (PortSEurope) September 12, 2017 – Vigo port authority (Autoridad Portuaria de Vigo) plans to present its “Blue Growth” strategy for sustainable development to European Union (EU) institutions in Brussels.
The first meeting to be held by the president of the port authority, Enrique López Veiga, will be held on September 12 with representatives of the Directorate-General on Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of the EU.
The directorate-general itself has invited the Vigo port authority to participate in a meeting on the principles of the financing of the so-called “blue economy”.
López Veiga has explained that the event represents an excellent opportunity and that his interventions in different forums will serve to present the experience of the harbour, gathered through the “Blue Growth” strategy.
“The European Commission considers us as pioneers, but the problem is that still there is no explicit acknowledgement to serve us as a plus for the launch of some projects. Therefore, we asked them to establish the necessary mechanisms to be able to rely on different financing lines,” López Veiga said.
The “Blue Growth” team will also hold a meeting with European financial institutions on September 12 and López Veiga will have the opportunity to present these initiatives, the sectors it covers, the institutions that launched it and the objectives it pursues.
