Barcelona, Spain (PortSEurope) May 14, 2019 – A delegation of automotive companies from China and Hong Kong visited Barcelona port last week to study the supply of specific logistics services and the land/maritime connectivity that the local infrastructure offers.
The delegation, consisting of a dozen managers of vehicle manufacturers as well as components for this industry, was received by the commercial manager of the Port of Barcelona, Lluís París; and the sales manager, Carles Mayol, among other executives.

The Chinese executives visited the two terminals of vehicles at he port, Autoterminal and Setram, and the railway terminals designed for this type of traffic.
The trip of the Chinese delegation, organised through ACCIÓ offices in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing, aims to position Catalonia in the world in the field of the vehicle of the future and to publicise the opportunities and assets that presents Catalonia in this field. The Port of Barcelona, which moved 810,000 new vehicles during the year 2018, carries a significant flow of intercontinental vehicle export and import. At the same time, it has consolidated itself as a regional hub for this type of traffic thanks to its offer of regular maritime services, freeways and motorways of the sea to different ports of the Mediterranean, and by rail and road services with the main centres of Spanish and European production and consumption.
During the visit, the Chinese delegation and representatives of the Port held a working meeting in which the latter emphasised that Catalonia is a leading region in Europe in the automotive sector, with two vehicle manufacturers, a network of more of 600 supplier companies and R & D centres dedicated to this industry. They also explained that the Port of Barcelona is a customer-oriented infrastructure and, very specifically, in the automotive sector, and they presented their maritime connections with the Far East, highly competitive, both in transit time and in operating costs. China has become the main trading partner of the Port of Barcelona and last year, 25% of the containers that went through the installation had the Asian giant as a source or destination.
