
Agreement signed for cleaning of Manfredonia port

Manfredonia, Italy (PortSEurope) July 28, 2017 – Autorita’ di Sistema Portuale del Mare Adriatico Meridionale (the Port Authority of the Southern Adriatic Sea) and the Municipality of Manfredonia have signed a memorandum of understanding with the aim of managing the activities of cleaning, collecting and disposing of waste in the areas covered by the commercial port, the industrial harbor and the coastline between the Levanto
Pier and the industrial port of Sipontina. For the areas within the commercial port and the industrial port, the work will be carried out by the in-house company of Manfredonia, ASE spa . For the free stretch of stretch between the Levanto Pier and the industrial harbor, instead, we will use the company already entrusted with the cleaning service of the free coast under the responsibility of the commune. The agreement was a result of talks between the chairman of port authority, Professor Ugo Patroni Griffi, and Manfredonia’s Mayor Angelo Riccardi, facing a situation that was degenerating into a real sanitary emergency. It is a temporary solution for the Summer. When fully in place, the port authority will have to address the long-term solution. The port authority will pay the City of Manfredonia €12,500 monthly for the collection and disposal of waste produced in the commercial and industrial ports. Manfredonia is a town and comune of Apulia, Italy, in the province of Foggia. The port in under management of bari-based Autorita’ di Sistema Portuale del Mare Adriatico Meridionale (the Port Authority of the Southern Adriatic Sea).
