Aktau and Kuryk port traffic to Azerbaijan down in Q1 2020

Baku, Azerbaijan (PortSEurope) May 1, 2020 – Total cargo traffic transshipped to Azerbaijan via Kazakhstan’s Aktau and Kuryk ports was 475,000 tons of cargo in January-March 2020, down 8% on the same period of 2019 (449,000 tons), Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Industry and Infrastructural Development reported. The volume of cargo transshipped amounted to 1.6 million tons in 2019, in turn, down 10% on 2018 (1.8 million
tons). Around 369,000 tons of ferry cargo were handled by Kuryk port in the first quarter, including 2,138 vehicles, up 145% (1,470 vehicles) and 5,171 wagons, down 20% (6,482 wagons). 1.3 million tons of ferry cargo were handled in Kuryk port in 2019, including 8,865 vehicles (+63%) in 1Q2019 (5,429 vehicles) and 20,306 wagons (-16&, 24,082 wagons). Kazakhstan’s leading Caspian Sea port is Aktau, operated by Aktau International Commercial Sea Port, and a modern multi-purpose terminal that allows the transportation of goods around the sea.
