
Albanian seaports see cargo up 14.4% in 2019

Durrës, Albania (PortSEurope) January 28, 2020 – The Institute of Statistics has reported 2019 figures for cargo and passengers using Albanian seaports. The volume of freight loading/unloading in ports in December 2019 was 354,000 tonnes, increasing 5.9 % compared to December 2018. In 2019, the volume of freight loading/unloading in ports was 4.5 million tonnes, up 14.5 % on 2018. The volume of freight transported
by rail in December 2019 was 419,000 tonnes–km, down 83.4 % on December 2018. In 2019, volume of freights transported by rail was 19.2 million tonnes-km, decreasing by 6.0 % compared to 2018. The number of passengers traveling by sea line in December 2019 was 78,600 passengers, up 0.7% on the same month of 2018. In 2019, 1,574,095 passengers travelled by sea, rising 3.4 % compared to 2018. In December 2019, the value of goods traded (exports and imports) was ALL 77.4 billion (Albanian lek), with 50.5 % transported by sea. In 2019, value of goods traded (exports and imports) is ALL 947.8 billion, 51.9 % transported by sea. In December 2019, goods exported by sea represent 60.0 %, by road 38.4 % and by air 0.4 % of total exports of goods. In 2019, goods exported by sea represented 59.2 %, by road 39.1 % and by air 0.5 %. In December 2019, goods imported by sea represent 46.8 %, by road 46.2 % and by air 3.9 %.
