Albanian seaports see increased traffic in September 2019

Durrës, Albania (PortSEurope) October 29, 2019 – The Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) has reported increased seaport traffic for September 2019. The volume of freight loading/unloading in ports, in the September 2019 was 396,000 tonnes, up 23.5 % compared to September 2018. In the first nine months of 2019, the volume of freight loading/unloading in ports was 3.4 million tonnes, increasing by 17.8 %. The volume
of freight transported by rail is 1.7 million tonnes–km decreasing by 22.0%. The volume of freights transported by rail was 15.4 million tonnes-km, increasing by 6.7 % compared with the same period of 2018. In September 2019, the volume of freights transported by air is 185 tonnes, increasing by 2.5 %; the volume of freights transported by air is 1,708 tonnes, increasing by 6.7 %. The number of flights, in September 2019, is 2,786, marking an increasing of 14.7 %, compared in September 2018. The number of passengers traveling by sea line in September 2019, is 178,774 passengers, compared to September 2018, this indicator decreased by 3.2 %. In the nine months of 2019, 1,340,840 passengers travelled by sea, increased 2.3 % compared to the same period a previous year. In September 2019, passenger air transport occupies 65.1 % of the total transport. The number of passengers traveling by air line, in the nine months of 2019, is 2,562,311 passengers, increasing by 11.8 %, compared to the same period of year 2018. In September 2019, the value of goods traded (exports and imports) is 76.8 billion Albanian Lek and 52.2 % of them is transported by sea. In the nine months of 2019, value of goods traded (exports and imports) is 706.1 billion Albanian Lek and 52.0 % of them is transported by sea. In September 2019, goods exported by sea represent 61.7 %, by road 36.8 % and by air 0.4 % of total exports of goods. Goods exported by road decreased by 4.2 % compared with a same period of previous year. In the nine months of 2019, goods exported by sea represent 59.1 %, by road 39.0 % and by air 0.5 %. In the nine months of 2019, goods exported by road increased by 5.9% compared to the same period of 2018. In September 2019, goods imported by sea represent 47.7 %, by road 45.3 % and by air 3.2 %. Goods imported by road in September 2019 increased by 5.7 % compared to September 2018. In the nine months of 2019, goods imported by sea represented 48.7%, by road 43.4 % and by air 3.1 %.
