Egypt’s Alexandria Port Sees Cargo Traffic Rise In 2018

Alexandria, Egypt (PortSEurope) February 11, 2019 – Alexandria port handled 62 million tonnes of cargo in 2018, up from 54 million tonnes in the previous year, the president of Alexandria port authority, Medhat Attia, said.

As for the projects being implemented at the port, he explained that the overhaul project is currently underway at berth 85/3, where the traffic of wood is handled, and is expected to be completed by the beginning of next year.

Attia stressed that there is a delay in the implementation of a multi-purpose station project at Alexandria Port, which is located on berths 55-65 due to the re-updating of its feasibility study.

He pointed out that the study is being updated by a Dutch consulting office, which is expected to complete the work in February.
