Algeciras port sees increased cargo traffic Jan-Oct 2019

Algeciras, Spain (PortSEurope) November 28, 2019 – In January-October  2019, the port of Algeciras handled over 92 million tons of goods, up 3% on the same period of 2018. Bulk traffic (liquid and solid) was down more than 1 million tonnes, but offset by a 6.4% growth in general cargo to 61.6 million, which accounts for 2 out of every 3 tonnes moved in the port.
Containers were 4.3 million TEU, up 7.8%, with full import/export containers, up 13% and 8%, respectively. Together with this traffic, 2,896 container carriers have operated in the period at the Juan Carlos I and Isla Verde Exterior docks, a hundred of them “megaships”. Ro-Ro exceeded 300,000 trucks as of October (+7.6%), of which 267,000 operated on the Algeciras-Tangier Med line (+8.1%). Copyright (C) PortSEurope. All Rights Reserved. 2019.
