Almeria, Spain (PortSEurope) December 1, 2020 – The City Council and the Port Authority have received the definitive document of the Master Plan for the development of the City Port, whose contracting was carried out through the Bahía Almeriport Foundation. A work which was characterized by having a high degree of citizen participation that has made it a milestone. The mayor, Ramón Fernández-Pacheco, stated that the
people of Almería will begin to see the port open to the city. The president of the Port Authority, Jesús Caicedo, also confirmed that the entity is waiting for a final report from the State Attorney to finish the concession of the land to the Almería City Council.. Likewise, he expressed his satisfaction with the new step and stated that the Port Authority is meeting the deadlines. The search for funding remains that both the mayor, the president of the Port Authority and the president of the Bahía Almeriport Foundation, Diego Cano, understand must be public-private, just as the collaboration was at the time of preparing the Master Plan in which, the following administrations were present: City Council, Port Authority and Junta de Andalucía. Cano stated that it was shown to the Almeria society that, together, it is possible to carry out large projects, which will allow Almería to develop economically and socially along its entire coastline. The presentation of the Master Plan was carried out by the architect Jesús María López, from the Junquera-McValnera UTE, the project’s writing team, and was developed in the Plenary Hall of the Town Hall before the spokespersons of all the groups politicians with municipal representation and the delegate councilor of the Urban Planning Area, Ana Martínez Labella. The presentation was also attended by technicians from Almería, municipal technicians, the vice president of the Club de Mar, Pedro Gómez Calvache, and the manager of the Almería 2030 Strategic Plan, María del Mar Plaza. The purpose of the event was to present a summary of the City Port Master Plan. Fernández-Pacheco, stated that the possibilities of the Port-City are all those in the world and now what they have to do is roll up their sleeves and work on what is to come. Once presented to the spokespersons, the City Council plans to present the Master Plan to the Social Council of the city, as well as giving an account to the Plenary of this roadmap that transcends corporations and that has a leading protagonist in civil society order.
