Almería port to join European Blue Growth strategy

Almería, Spain (PortSEurope) May 3, 2019 – Almería port plans to join the European Blue Growth strategy, a policy of the European Union that aims to support the sustainable growth of the maritime sector, as indicated by the president of the port authority, Jesus Caicedo. The harbour needs to take advantage of several lines of economic funds that the European Union allocates to projects in sectors of development
such as fishing, industry, tourism, as well as the integration of ports and cities, Caicedo said. “Almería port has at the moment a great potential for innovation and growth, and it is important that it receives community aid that supports sustainable projects that generate wealth and employment.” Caicedo plans to attend the European Maritime Day (EMD) on May 16 and 17 in Lisbon, the annual event organised by the European Commission on maritime affairs and Blue Growth, which allows institutions to be put in contact with professionals in the sector. The blue economy generates 5.4 million jobs worldwide and a gross added value of almost €500 billion ($558 billion) per year. However, according to experts, more growth is still possible in some areas. Copyright (C) PortSEurope. All Rights Reserved. 2019.
