Andalusia invests in fishing ports

Almería, Spain (PortSEurope) July 11, 2019 – The Minister of Development, Infrastructure and Planning, Marifrán Carazo, has said in the Andalusian Parliament Development Commission that the new government will give support to the port facilities of Andalucia, highlighting actions for the improvement of the fishing ports is planned with an investment of over €9 million.

The counselor highlighted the importance of the Andalusian fishing sector commenting that along the coast of Andalusia there are 22 port facilities aimed more or less at fishing, and that the Andalusian fishing fleet maintains a berthing line of more than 8,200 metres, generating a significant number of jobs in our community.

To boost this activity, the Junta de Andalucía is carrying out a series of actions that total more than €9 million and include work in progress or about to start, which aims to keep the fishing infrastructures fully operational and improve the working conditions of the fishermen.

Currently, several works are under execution for more than €4.3 million. Among these actions, the new fish market of the port of Fuengirola stand out; the new mollusc purification centre and improvement of the safety and operational conditions of the exempt dock in the port of Bonanza; the new equipment for the unloading of fishing in Barbate; the modernisation of ice factories in the markets of Barbate, Chipiona and Marbella; the installation of pontoons for the artisanal fleet of Conil; the improvement of the system of defenses and scales in Isla Cristina; the support dock for the artisanal fleet in Punta Umbría; the surveillance system of the Mazagón fishing wharf; the urbanization of the esplanade of the fish market and new mooring points for the fleet of Caleta de Vélez; the technological improvement of the auction system in Garrucha; and the paving of the esplanades of the markets of Adra, Barbate and Rota.

Also, throughout this year a series of works for the maintenance of the access channels of the different ports totalling more than €4 million. Among these last actions, the dredging of Marbella or Conil, already concluded or in the phase of completion, and to which the Punta Umbría in autumn and the works planned in Carboneras, Barbate, Sanlúcar or La Atunara, which are pending Obtaining the respective permits. Finally, it is planned to hire performances in almost a dozen ports that exceed one million euros.
