ANESCO Calls For Tax Cut At Ports

Madrid, Spain (PortSEurope) January 15, 2020 – The executive committee of ANESCO (Asociación de Empresas Estibadoras, dockworkers association) has called for a tax reduction for companies in the port sector, and particularly for occupancy tax for companies operating on port property.

It views the current tax rates as a threat to the competitiveness of local companies and reduces the chances of generating quality employment.

The stowage sector is a key sector in the country’s economy as 90% of exports and 60% of Spanish imports are handled via ports and the value of these goods represents 35% of Spanish GDP. Approximately 65% of these goods require stowage and unloading services.
