Ashdod port seeks DP World-UAE connection

Ashdod, Israel (PortSEurope) November 27, 2020 – Orna Hozman-Bechor, chairwoman of the Port of Ashdod said after a meeting with Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem at the Israel-UAE Conference in Dubai that the port was keen to develop cooperation with UAE-based DP World. Dubai’s DP World and Israel Shipyards Industries have jointly submitted a bid to take over Haifa port which is set to be privatised.
However, Hozman-Bechor still sees a key role for the central Ashdod port as a regional transport bub linking Europe with the Middle East and further. The port’s chairwoman would like to see UAE shipping lines using the port, an activity that could start soon. Recently, the first MSC vessel to sail with cargo from Israel directly to Dubai through Egypt’s Port Said carried a special container from Ashdod. The vessel contained a shipment of adhesive tapes from the Davik plant at Kibbutz Sde Boker. The Dubai customer was Kimoha, which purchased the adhesive tape designed to create carrying handles for packs of bottles. Copyright (C) PortSEurope. All Rights Reserved. 2020.
