Hong Kong, China (PortSEurope) November 7, 2019 – A delegation of the port of Barcelona comprising commercial manager, Luis Paris; manager Carlos Mayol; and the delegate of the Port in China, Joan Dedéu, has attended the 16th edition of the Sino International Freight Forwarders Conference, which is held in Hong Kong from November 4 to 7.

The Sino Conference 2019, organized annually by the WCA Family of Logistic Networks (WCAF) in collaboration with the China International Freight Forwarders Association (CIFA), is the world’s leading freight forwarder event in China and Asia.

As a result of the agreement signed between the Port of Barcelona and the Association of International Freight Forwarders of Barcelona (ATEIA-OLTRA ), CIFA and WCAF, almost a dozen Catalan freight forwarders attend the meeting.

China is the main trading partner of the Port of Barcelona, the origin or destination for 23% of the containers it handles: 42% of imports come from China and 10% of exports have China as their final destination.

The representatives of the Port of Barcelona, for their part, will announce the strengths of Catalan infrastructure as a European and Mediterranean hub: easy access to a market of more than 400 million consumers; a shorter transit time, of only 24 days, between China and Europe with respect to the ports of northern Europe; and a saving of up to 15% of distribution costs and 20% on the carbon footprint in logistics chains.

The Port of Barcelona will also present its services and its reliable, efficient and competitive connectivity with the countries of the northern and southern shores of the Mediterranean, with feeder and short sea shipping  (SSS) services , as well as consolidated railway corridors and a powerful offer of road transport that connects with its European markets.

The CIIE, promoted by the Chinese president, Xi Jinping, and sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, aims to be a platform for trade liberalization and the opening of the Chinese economy in the world and is especially aimed at facilitating Import of high value products.

Port of Barcelona manager, Carles Mayol, and the delegate of the Port in China, Joan Dedéu, will also attend the China International Import Expo (CIIE) fair held from November 5 to 9 in Shanghai.

The Port of Barcelona, with its own stand in the Trade in Services pavilion, wants to raise awareness of the growing role that the Catalan installation is playing as a Euro-Mediterranean distribution hub, while at the same time putting in value its complete offer of maritime lines. This is a good opportunity to highlight the good connectivity between China and Barcelona and favor the automobile market, the industrial products, household appliances, electronics, fashion, chemical products and e-commerce platforms.
