Barcelona, Spain (PortSEurope) April 23, 2018 – Barcelona port shared last week in Motril its experience in short sea shipping during its participation in the conference “Short Sea Shipping, instrument of competitiveness and sustainability of the road freight transport sector”, which was held in the port of Motril (Granada) organised by the Spanish Association for the Promotion of Short Sea Shipping (Shortsea Promotion Center Spain).
During the meeting, Ana Arévalo, commercial manager of Barcelona port authority, presented the logistics offer of the harbour, for which the short sea shipping services with North Africa and Italy is one of the bases of growth. Arévalo recalled that Barcelona has adequate infrastructure to handle this type of traffic and the shipping companies that operate these regular lines offer efficient, reliable and quality services.
The objective of the event was to inform the logistics operators and shippers linked to Motril port about the environmental and competitive advantages of intermodal freight transport based on short sea shipping.
The maritime offer of Barcelona port is complemented by a very competitive connectivity with its hinterland, a wide range of logistics operators with a presence in Spain and Europe and a clear commitment to the railroad to take the goods to their final destinations. Currently, the Barcelona port, which is a member of the Shortsea Promotion Center Spain since 2010, has a regular offer of short sea shipping services with different Italian, Moroccan, Algerian and Tunisian destinations, operated by the shipping companies Grimaldi Lines, Grandi Navi Veloci, Suardíaz Fleet, Cotunav and ENTMV.
