Barcelona, Spain (PortSEurope) January 4, 2018 – Barcelona port authority (Autoridad Portuaria de Barcelona) has tendered the technical assistance services for initiatives in the expansion of the usage of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a ship fuel.
Barcelona port actively participates as a partner in the CORE-LNGas hive project, co-financed by the European Union. The purpose of the initiative is to promote LNG as an alternative fuel for ships, terminal machinery and trucks.
The port authority has tendered the technical assistance services for a period of two years, with an estimated contract value of €198,780 ($239,980). Offers may be submitted until February 9.
The promotion of LNG as alternative fuel for ships is one of the most outstanding actions of the Air Quality Improvement Plan of the port of Barcelona since LNG reduces NOx emissions by 80% and suppresses the emissions of solid particles and of sulfur oxides.
