Batumi International Container Terminal delivers the first cargo via the new ADY Container feeder service.

Batumi, Georgia (PortSEurope) June 28, 2022 – Georgia’s Batumi International Container Terminal (BICT), part of International Container Terminal Services - ICTSI), has delivered the first cargo via the new ADY Container feeder service. The service, which includes rail and sea communication, connects Asia with Europe through the via Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR – The Middle Corridor). The new multimodal service was launched to meet the needs to increase transportation along the route. This is increasing due to the sharp increase of transit cargo through Azerbaijan. The goods delivered by the new service are exported mainly from China. ADY Container is part of CJSC Azerbaijan Railways. ADY Container operates exclusively within Azerbaijan and provides multimodal transport, custom brokerage and storage facilities. A feeder vessel will transport containers between the Georgia’s Batumi International Container Terminal (BICT) and Romania’a Constanta, both Black Sea ports. The new service is a joint project between ADY Container and ASCO (Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company) and will provide an efficient connection between China and Europe via Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Romania. The vessel, which will deliver containers from Batumi to Constanta and back, will have six departures a month between Batumi (Georgia) and Constanta (Romania). From Romania, goods are transported by rail to various destination in Europe. The service will form part of the TITR transport corridor, which is experiencing increased cargo volumes after the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the international sanctions against Russia. In January-April of 2022, over 9,000 TEU cargoes (+30%) were transported along the Trans-Caspian route. Given the current geopolitical situation in Europe, ADY Container predicts further growth of transportation along the route. 100% of the shares in the Batumi International Container Terminal (BICT) are owned by the International Container Terminal Services (ICTSI) group of companies. The BICT terminal has been operational in the port of Batumi since 2007, when ICTSI has concluded a concession agreement with the Georgian government for a period of 48 years to operate a multi -purpose terminal to process mainly containerised goods. The International Container Terminal Services, founded in 1988 in Manila (Philippines), is specialied in the management, development and activities of ports, which does not have direct interests related to marine cargo transportation, logistics or shippers. It collaborates with the governments to acquire privatised port, terminal assets and for the implementation of projects in the developed and developing markets of the Asia-Pacific region, North and South America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
