Bilbao port to launch own innovation centre

Bilbao, Spain (PortSEurope) May 7, 2019 – Autoridad Portuaria de Bilbao (APB – Port Authority of Bilbao) is preparing to establish its own innovation and research centre, which will be operational from July 2019 and will host start-ups and researchers. The centre aims to promote the state-owned Port 4.0 Fund project, whose first call will take place in the second half of this year with
a budget of about €25 million ($28 million). The president of the port authority, Ricardo Barkala, has indicated that the centre’s objective is “to contribute to fostering an environment and a climate of innovation in the port of Bilbao, providing the necessary means for ideas and projects that provide solutions to problems of the sector can prosper.” Fund 4.0, managed by national ports agency Puertos del Estado, seeks to promote innovation in the logistic-port community, facilitating the development of innovative projects, as well as the creation of start-ups and entrepreneurs in the sector.
