Bilbao, Spain (PortSEurope) December 4, 2020 – Bilboestiba-CPE and the works council have agreed to a government proposal to start negotiations with a view to ending the strike at the port. The strike has affected the port since October and drastically reduced port cargo traffic, to the benefit of other local ports. Bilboestiba-CPE said that it had agreed to the proposal subject to full compliance
of the law regulating the industry. For its part, the union representation of the stevedoring sector in Bilbao has expressed its “willingness to dialogue in any circumstance, and we accept these proposals and any that are aimed at trying to solve the conflict in a negotiated way. Likewise, the longshoremen have promised “not to exercise their strength during the time this process lasts, and even to suspend if the good faith of the negotiator definitively installs it in this process”.
