
Bulgaria: Concessions for Vidin port terminals extended

Vidin, Bulgaria (PortSEurope) February 21, 2021 – The Bulgarian government has extended the concession agreements for the Vidin-North and the Ferry Complex terminals on the Danube river with Bulgarian River Shipping to the maximum allowed 35-year period, and the concessionaire was also released from the obligation to meet a minimum requirement for volume of cargo handled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Port Terminal Vidin-Center for a construction concession, for which at least BGN 597,000 (€305,500) are expected. In 2019, the government announced a concession for the port terminal for all types of cargo with a territory of 18,261 m². The concession payment then was BGN 863,000 (€441,000). Bulgarian River Shipping won a 30-year concession deal for the two terminals in 2010. Bulgarian River Shipping revenue in 2020 was BGN 12.5 million (€6.4 million) compared to BGN 14.6 million (€7.47 million) in 2019. Net profit in 2020 was BGN 941,000 (€481,500) compared to BGN 1.6 million (€818,800) in 2019. The development of the Danube River port of Vidin is in accordance with the EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR), an organisation which covers a region stretching from the Black Forest (Germany) to the Black Sea (Romania-Ukraine-Moldova) and is home to 115 million inhabitants. Bulgarian River Shipping has been listed on Bulgarian Stock Exchange since 2004. Chimimport, through Bulgarian Shipping Company, and through other subsidiaries, owns 76.15% of the capital of the company.
