Cádiz port plans to invest €20.8 million in 2020

Cádiz, Spain (PortSEurope) July 7, 2020 - Autoridad Portuaria de la Bahía de Cádiz (APBC - Port Authority of Cadiz) plans to invest €20.8 million ($23.59 million) in 2020 in works and services that will improve its competitiveness and efficiency in order capture of new traffic and expand its business lines. The new container terminal is the focus, amounting to €6.5 million, of which €4 million is for the paving of the esplanade and urbanization of the access, awarded earlier this year to Acciona Construcción, SA for €5.4 million. This work began in late March and is currently running normally. It has an execution period of 11 months. Grupo Concasa is the concessionaire of part of the first phase of the new container terminal and will transfer its personnel from the terminal of the Reina Sofía dock, where container traffic is currently located, to the new terminal. This way, the operation will be able to be carried out from the last quarter of the year and thus meet with the planned schedule. Also related to the commissioning of the new terminal is the project for the execution of the complementary lanes in the La Galeona Pier for container cranes, which is in tender with a budget of €931,742. Likewise, the repair work on the tunnel's waterway continues in order to undertake the second phase of the project to access the new container terminal, consisting of concluding the access tunnel and also guaranteeing the rail access, with an investment of €3.6 million. The third major project related to the implementation of the new terminal, is the execution of the new Border Inspection Post (PIF), which this year has a budget of €2.3 million. The Port Authority of the Bay of Cádiz will also carry out this year various actions related to sustainability, among which it is the execution of windbreak screens in the La Cabezuela-Puerto Real dock, in which €1.6 million will be invested. The procedure for awarding this work was suspended due to the Covid-19 coronavirus crisis, but it could be resumed and be awarded to the company Gestión y Ejecution de Obra Civil, SAU and is currently pending the signing of the contract. The Digitization Plan, an investment that was also affected by the state of alarm in a first stage, could be resumed from RD 15/2020, and awarded to the company Emetel Sistemas SL for the development and implementation of the Technology Master Plan, within the framework of digitization of processes and services undertaken by the organization to promote its competitiveness and efficiency. The tender budget of €4.2 million and a 4-year multi-year development, of which €800,000 will be invested in 2020, is part of the strategy that the Port Authority leadership is developing to face the future with the maximum guarantees, since important infrastructure works are being carried out.
