Cagliari, Italy (PortSEurope) June 19, 2019 – Cagliari International Container Terminal (CICT) has issued collective dismissal notices to 210 employees.
The trade unions have responded rapidly and are organising a sit-in protest in front of the Regional Council not only for Cict employees, but also for colleagues who have been dismissed by other companies in crisis.
“We ask that the situation be managed on a par with large industrial companies such as the former Alcoa because hundreds of jobs are at stake with enormous economic repercussions. We do not want social shock absorbers but development and future for the port of Cagliari,” William Zonca, regional secretary of trade union UIL Transporti, William Zonca, said.
Cagliari International Container Terminal (CICT) is, since 2003, Contship’s Sardinian transhipment hub.
