Cagliari, Sardinia, Italy (PortSEurope) June 12, 2019 – Autorita’ di Sistema Portuale del Mare Di Sardegna (AdSP – Sardinian Sea Port Authority) has issued a statement relating to the operation of the Cagliari Port Channel.
The statement says that contrary to news circulating among sector operators and in order to avoid the further diffusion of inaccurate information damaging to the operational and commercial reputation of the Cagliari airport, the AdSP considers it necessary to clarify that the Port Channel has not stopped working and continues, as usual, to accept commercial traffic.
The port has had some negative experiences recently.
Earlier this month, Cagliari International Container Terminal (CICT), a subsidiary of Contship Italia, announced a downsizing plan for 210 employees.
In May this year, German shipping company Hapag-Lloyd AG announced that it would stop calling the port of Cagliari with the Europe Mediterranean Express (EMX). Whilst it is not unusual for shipping companies to changes ports of call for specific services, the announcement came at a difficult time for Cagliari port.
Last month, Italy’s deputy transport minister Edoardo Rixi has held a meeting with the management of Cagliari port to discuss a crisis at the harbour and the 700 jobs a risk.
