Cairo seeks to develop Libya railway connection

Cairo, Egypt (PortSEurope) January 28, 2021 – The Egyptian Transport Minister Kamel Al-Wazir has said that the government is planning to extend its railway network by 15,000 kilometres to reach the Libyan city of Benghaziby 2024. The minister said that improved rail links with Libya and Sudan would improve regional development. This would include the extension of the Matrouh-Salloum line to the city of Benghazi.
The railway would connect West Port Said to the port of Abu Qir in Alexandria via Damietta and New Mansoura. Recently, Cairo has been hosting UN talks between the various parties in Libya to hold a referendum prior to elections. Copyright (C) PortSEurope. All Rights Reserved. 2021.
