Reggio Calabria, Italy (PortSEurope) November 22, 2018 – Calabria regional government’s president Mario Oliverio has sent an open letter to the central Italian government to protest against the potential exclusion of Reggio Calabria, Messina and Villa San Giovanni port from the management of the South Tyrrhenian, Ionian and Strait Seas.
The potential establishment of a new port authority which will assume the management of the three ports is not supported by the region of Calabria as such a move would not comply with the strategy for the simplification of the management of Italian ports and would endanger investments in the three ports, Oliverio said in the open letter.
“The separation of the ports of Villa and Reggio would introduce a clear and evident complication against the best practices,” the letter, also signed by the mayors of Reggio Calabria and Villa San Giovanni, Giuseppe Falcomatà and Giovanni Siclari, respectively, reads.
