China Railway Eryan Engineering signs MOU for Croatian transportation corridor development

Dubrovnik, Croatia (PortSEurope) April 21, 2019 – Infrastructure manager HŽ Infrastruktura has signed a memorandum of understanding with China Railway Eryan Engineering Group Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of CREC, for the development of the Intermodal Transportation Corridor in Croatia. The MOU aims to promote the construction of the Intermodal Transportation Corridor along the Croatian-Hungarian border. It is one of the key projects of the Croatian
Government, located along the Mediterranean Corridor of the nine corridors of the EU’s Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T). It also assumes that Chinese capital will finance the construction of terminals and logistic centres for better use of intermodal transport opportunities, including modernisation of lines to ports in Zadar, Sibenik and Split. This is latest in a number of agreements as Chinese companies increase their presence in Balkan countries. Last week, Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic and his Chinese counterpart Li Keqiang issued a joint statement pledging to increase “new Silk Road” cooperation in transportation, logistics and other areas after they met in Croatia’s capital Zagreb. The two leaders witnessed the exchange of six bilateral cooperation agreements in agriculture, tourism, technology, sports, and the digital sector. Croatia will also promote the participation of its companies in joint projects with China within the frameworks of the new Silk Road initiative, China-CEEC cooperation and Croatia’s Three Seas Initiative. China Railway Eryuan Engineering Group is one of the largest multi-industry and comprehensive engineering survey & design corporation in China, with survey, design, consulting, general contracting and system integration as the core businesses.
