Civitavecchia May Lose Chiquita’s Banana Traffic

Civitavecchia, Italy (PortSEurope) November 9, 2018 – Civitavecchia port may lose its entire traffic of bananas imported by US company Chiquita, due to insufficient cold storage capacity.

Recently, Chiquita decided to cancel a call at Civitavecchia port and replace it with Livorno, as the former has ordered the unloading of the fruit at dock 25 where there are no refrigerating storage facilities.

The decision represents image damage to Civitavecchia port, which risks losing important traffic, as Chiquita has redirected its entire traffic to Livorno.

CFFT SpA, the operator of a food handling terminal in Civitavecchia, has also suffered a damage and its employees risk losing their jobs.
