Naples, Italy (PortSEurope) June 11, 2018 – The works to secure the beach and the marine area in front of the Trentaremi Bay in Posillipo have been completed. The intervention, costing about €150,000, was financed by Autorita’ di Sistema Portuale del Mar Tirreno Centrale (AdSP – Central Tyrrhenian Sea Port Authority), and involved the removal of asbestos and other material present in the area from the seabed and from the beach.

The operations lasted just over two weeks and took place under the control and supervision of the AdSP and ASL Napoli1-District 24.

The city contributed to the completion of the work, via the removal of unsafe blocks of the ridge aimed at securing the areas under construction, and Associazione “Centro Studi Interdisciplinare Gaiola Onlus, which carried out the supervision of activities both at sea and on the shore providing the scientific assistance of an ornithologist and two experts in marine flora and fauna.

For the transfer of materials, a pontoon was used, equipped with a crane to lift big bags containing the waste collected on the shoreline and the seabed, and a boat for transport from the shoreline to the pontoon, positioned further off, to the limits area that delimits the SCI (site of community interest of Gaiola). On the same pontoon the decontamination unit necessary for the interventions to safeguard the health of the personnel after the activities has been allocated.
