Constanta port to benefit from Naval Group contract

Constanta, Romania (PortSEurope) July 3, 2019 – The Romanian government has announced that Naval Group of France and the local Şantierul Naval Constanţa SA (SNC) have been awarded a contract to build four new Gowind multi-mission corvettes, to modernise the T22 frigates and to create a maintenance and training centre. According to Defence Minister Gabriel Leş, the contract is for seven years with the first
vessels to be delivered in three years. Dutch company Damen and Italian company Fincantieri SpA also submitted bids for the contract. Naval Group is a European leader in naval defence, designing, building and supporting submarines and surface ships. It also supplies services to shipyards and naval bases. Constanta-based SNC builds product and chemical tankers and other customised vessels as well in the repair, modernisation, conversion and retrofit works for commercial and military vessels.
