Valencia, Spain (PortSEurope) June 19, 2019 – Valenciaport container traffic increased 10% in the first five months of 2019, reaching 2,298,602 TEU. Full containers recorded a rise of 7.30% due to imports increasing 8.53%; exports increased 5.02%; and transit was up 7.81%. Empty containers experienced an increase of 19.52%.
In the month of May, the three ports managed by Autoridad Portuaria de Valencia (APV – Valenciaport, Port Authority of Valencia) (Valencia, Sagunto and Gandia) registered total traffic of 491,092 TEU, 6.26% up on May last year. The increase is due mainly to foreign trade of full containers. In particular, exports are up 9.77%, while imports are up 7.31%.
In terms of total traffic , Valenciaport handled 33,998,049 tonnes until May, up 7.12%. Foreign trade of general merchandise recorded a rise of 1.56%, with a total of 10.57 million tons handled. In particular, exports increased by 1.77%, with 6.36 million tons, driven by good traffic figures with countries such as the United States (+9.87%) and Saudi Arabia (+6.06%).
On the other hand, imports, with a total of 4.21 million tons, grew by 1.26% thanks to the good records of countries such as China (+13.53%) and Turkey (+15.29%). On the other hand, the total transit increases by 9.64%, exceeding 15.89 million tons.
