Barcelona, Spain (PortSEurope) November 27, 2018 – Cruise ship company Costa Crociere and the Food Bank has started a project to distribute unserved foods on board between NGOs in Barcelona.
Barcelona has been the first port in Spain to participate in this program, which facilitates the donation of food surpluses to the most needy. On Thursday, November 22, the food donation project was launched in the port of Barcelona to donate food, prepared and not served on board to NGOs, a task carried out by Banco del Food.
The Costa Crociere company has launched the 4GOODFOOD program on all its ships with the objective of reducing the surplus food generated on board by 50%. The program is based on the review of processes and in getting the involvement of the crew and the passengers to achieve sustainability.
Also included in the 4GOODFOOD program is a collaboration with different ones port food banks in the Mediterranean where it is operating (Savona, Civitavecchia, Bari, Palermo and Marseille), where 70,000 food portions have already been distributed.
